fall trends to avoid (#1)

fall is by no means one of my favorite seasons of all time

that being said, this season has lots of REALLY cool fashion trends

and so, being the usual big spender i already am, fall did nothing helpful to me economically all it did was to make my fall- shopping list even longer

however, not everyone can rock all the looks, as much as their fashionista self craves to

having been in the situation where i myself would buy whatever that catches my eye and then just leave it hanging on the hangers to die a long, slow death, i’d learned for the better and decided to not let anyone out there repeat the mistakes i’ ve done in past seasons

for each fall trends to avoid, there’d be trends to wear instead as i hope to be able to make  you people to not feel really depressed (can’t be TOTALLY not depressed) for not being to be able to don what models had on the runways

#1: harem pants

pardon me if you must, but the reason for havin SO many harem pants pics is that I JUST CAN”T GET ENOUGH OF THESE!!!

harem pants, or as i like to call it: Princess Jasmine pants are all the rage this season

made famous by MC Hammer, this baggy, parachute- style pants are seemingly ONLY wearable by the tall  and skinny females, undoubtedly this is true and and so to say that for most real women this AIN’T easy to pull off

MC HAMMER

the alternative ( for those who really wanna try, HOLD ON):pair a basic trouser with a colorful bag and coat

a word of caution: NOT to be tried by the FAINT- HEARTED or those who are STYLISTICALLY CHALLENGED

“People who are not fashion savvy should stay away from harem pants because they can go terribly, terribly wrong,”

“If you pair them with something too casual or too baggy, you’re going to make yourself look like a big balloon, and that’s unattractive.”

Suze Yalof Schwartz, executive fashion editor at large for Glamour magazine

here goes some of Schwartz’s tips for how to pull off the look:

  • you don’t have to be model thin to wear harem pants. You just need to pair them with the right top and accessories
  • women should dress up harem pants with high heels and a tailored top. Stay away from anything bulky on top
  • men should dress down harem pants with sneakers and a T-shirt
  • don’t over-accessorize! Think of the pants themselves as a statement piece
  • the long version of harem pants looks best on most people. Stay away from the Capri or short versions
  • choose solid fabrics over prints, which can look a little too retro

Vogue.co.uk , their tips:

  • perfect for any woman with a slim top half – the voluminous silhouette of the trousers will level the playing field below the waist
  • define a waist by always tucking in tops
  • make the most of the season’s elaborate, waisted belts and use your midriff as a staging ground for adornment
  • for the most flattering shape, keep it tight on top; a camisole top or tailored jacket is perfect
  • if opting for volume on top as well as on the legs, be sure to always keep the waist cinched
  • heels should be one thing: high

but, about really rockin harem pants, let’s just ask the man himself

“You can make a fashion statement, ” Hammer said. “You can move in ‘em. You can dance in ‘em. … It accentuates the movement, and it gives you freedom of movement. It’s a slight delay. You move, and then the pants move, so it brings a nice little flair.”

What about us??? The not- dancing ones???

“From your heart, you wear them, how you feel today,” Hammer said. “If it’s a sunshiny day and you have a certain pair that goes with the sunshine, and you want to put some bright colors with them, then you do that.”

with still quite some length to go on what to wear and not to wear, i guess it’d be best to make separate posts for each of the trends

crowning glory

if anything, i’d say that women most important assets is having nice hair of course, being well- endowed just makes it a plus

in my opinion, hair defines someone more than clothes can in ways that hair kinda like shows people a constant side of oneself as no matter how you style your hair on a particular day, the basic elements remain the same

unless, you go doing your hair as if its clothes that you can change everyday

i,  myself take great care of my hair but there are also those rather rare occasions at which i’d just not give a damn bout how its looking when i step out of the house

and yeah, that being said, it actually took me quite some time to decide on having blond streaks in my hair

at that time , i was somewhat torn between having a hair like Rihanna’s or keeping my hair in its original rebonded state

obviously, i went with the plan… but the final results ain’t what i was expecting coz i didn’t bleach my hair like what i should’ve done

and since i was ALSO only highlighting half of my hair, the streaks did not really show in my dark hair

anyways, i went to the hairdresser today to get new bangs as i always keep ‘em a-  changing and this is how it looks like :D

perusing few mags for new bangs, i came across these REALLY nice hairstyles oh, how i wish for ‘em

i love GREEN hair !!!

i love GREEN hair !!!

initially, the color i wanted to highlight my hair in was green

simply fell in love with this hair. OMG

but unfortunately, for that to be realized i’ve got to bleach my hair

and so… yeah, it’ll never happen anytime soon

but i’ll make sure that before i die, i’ll get this done, OR i’ll be kickin and scratchin my coffin for all eternity before some good- lookin vamp comes  around and let me get this done

GREEN ROCKS =K

gotta thank this for the fringe i'm havin now

gotta thank this for the bangs i'm havin now

s' pose Adam Lambert is behind this?

reminds me of a siren

simple and chic

with all that being said, i still love the hair i’m born with

autumn

trees dressed in brightly colored leaves with hues of autumn

the bright and warm sun

fresh caramel apples

kids jumping into piles of leaves

the songs of birds

flock of ducks quacking overhead

pumpkin on your fingers

autumn 08= sun kissed and dark colors

plum, brown and camel tones

enhance these with metallic gold, bronze and copper highlights

hues like this paints a scenery of dawn stepping away, and revealing a surreal world

“Eyes of fall are swept in dark shades- reflection of the sun’s retreat amidst a smoky sky”

Laura Mercier

on the other hand, dark colors will create sexy vampy looks

this fall’ll be the best time to experiment with dark colors

be daring and make heads turn!

explore a monochrome palette for deep, intense and sophisticated shades

love this autumn’s makeup coz it focuses on glam rock and gothic looks

reminds me of sexy female vampires and femme- fatales…

yea, and not to be forgotten also is bohemian chic

remember to divert attention from ‘pale’ looks to bright, bold lip colors!

i’ve bought it!

i went to Pavilion just to buy this tote that i mentioned in the earlier post

luckily, the tote is still there

its like there’s only two of this in the whole store; one which is on the shoulders of the mannequin and one more new one

its quite expensive but its money well- spent

i’m happy, very happy

when i saw this tote last Saturday, it seems like the white color of this tote is painted on it

however, my dad said it’s made of canvas

just like what i’ve thought it turns out to be really painted

sounds kinda dope but i suppose that Levi’s wanted something different from those totes out there…..

Levi’s bag

this is the second time around that i went shopping at Pavillion and fell in love with something at the Levi’s store there

this something is a white tote which bear little resemblance to my GAP tote

it’s made of canvas or something like that, i’m not sure

it costs RM 239, no discount

all the other items in this store got discount, the jeans, accessories you name it

it seems like it, 30% off here and 50% off there

most of the items there, except this bag which was on the shoulder of a mannequin

i asked my parents if like they can like pay part of it, they was like ‘no’

the reason was simple because they don’t like the bag; mom was like it’s white so it’ll get dirty easily, dad was like he just don’t like it

wth. but i understand…

i’ll be saving up my money to buy that bag, and i’ll buy the bag soon before it’s gone i hope

no, i don’t buy everything with my own money except for things like bags and accessories which my parents seriously think that it should be bought with my own money

yeah, i agree coz it’ll make me more money- wise, or not i’ll be a spendthrift person

this bag is of last season

i also bought a new customized key chain to replace my key chain that dropped on the floor the other day, which had caused few of the diamonds(fake) in it to fall off

i tried gluing it back, but it failed terribly cause the yellow glue that i used made these diamonds to turn yellow

and yeah, it turned out ugly…

it saddens me cause i really liked that key chain very much, but there’s nothing that can be done….and i bought another one today

i kept that former one safely in my room and still like that key chain

if i love something, nothing will ever change that, no matter what happens

Jaspal

last Saturday when i and my mom were on our way to the food court at Pavillion, we came across this shop- Jaspal

at that instant, the shop had left an impression on us which was like ” We sell those kind of Indian clothes and Indian themed clothings”

my brain rang an alarm “Don’t enter that shop!”

but little did i realize that this label is in fact a huge name in Thailand

this brand is Thailand’s answer to brands like Gap, Guess? and Topshop

with an outlet that goes by the name Jaspal, it’s sure not a wonder to be thinking of Indian clothes, accessories and the like

i suppose ther are many more others like me who have never heard of it, with this being the first time

i don’t usually go Thailand, so far i’ve been there twice plus the fact that i’ve never even stepped a foot at Siam Paragon

i’d love to go shopping there =)

this Thai label is founded by Jaspal Singhsachathet that sells only imported apparel and accessories in the beginning

it was only after some time that it became a full- fledged retail entity with in- house designers and factories to create and manufacture its own fashion wear

ya’ know what??

Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen and Milla Jovovich are among the famous faces of Jaspal!

the clothes from Jaspal include work wear, casual wear, sports wear and denim wear

au revoir, Saint Laurent….

Saint Laurent founded YSL, also known as Yves Saint Laurent

he exploded the French fashion scene in 1958 as the successor to Christian Dior, following Dior’s death in 1957

Saint Laurent was born 1st August 1936 and passed on to Paradise yesterday, Sunday at the age of 71

initially, the cause of his death were not known

but it is then confirmed to be the cause of brain cancer

his death saddens me as much as fashionistas around the world for he revolutionized the fashion world and made a mark in fashion

in her book, Couture; The Great Fashion Designers, Caroline Rennolds Milbank wrote,

“The most consistently celebrated and influential designer of the past twenty-five years, Yves Saint Laurent can be credited with both spurring the couture’s rise from its Sixties ashes and with finally rendering ready- to- wear reputable”

during 1960s and 1970s, YSL popularized the beatnik look, safari jackets tight pants and tall, thigh-high boots, including the creation of the most famous classic tuxedo suit for women in 1966, the Le Smoking suit

his glamorous evening clothes were often adorned with appliqués and beadwork which are inspired by Picasso, Miro and Matisse

OMG, i love it very so much….

Saint Laurent isn’t like any other overnight sensations, he managed to remain at the top as fashion changed, from emphasis on formal, custom made haute couture to casual sportswear

his muse for many years has been Catherine Deneuve

he was the first to use black models in his runway shows

way to go, man!

shortly after his last collection for Dior which was based on a “chic beatnik” look of knitted turtlenecks and black leather jackets, he was called up to serve in the French Army during the Algerian War of Independence

20 days later Saint Laurent was hospitalized for a nervous collapse

1962, in the wake of his nervous breakdown, Saint Laurent was released from Dior and his job was given to his former assistant, Marc Bohan and that’s when YSL came into the picture, financed by his lover, Pierre Berge

both split up as a couple in the early 1976 and Berge remained as his lifelong business partner

In 1983, he became the first living fashion designer to be honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art

In 2001, he was awarded the rank of Commander of the Legion d’Honneur by Jacques Chirac

in 2002, Saint Laurent and became increasingly reclusive, from that time to his death, much of his time is spent at home

as apt his success, Saint Laurent lived elegantly

all his homes- which he shared with a succession of French bulldogs were lavishly decorated and filled with antiques and artwork of his favorite artists, including Picasso, Cocteau, Braque and Christian Berard

so cool. oh, how i wish to be that rich!!

i’ll buy lots of sport cars, love them too much…

he also created a foundation with Pierre Bergé in Paris to trace the history of the house of YSL, complete with 15,000 objects and 5,000 pieces of clothing

WOW!!

this brand’s famous around the world but in Malaysia, we don’t really see much of YSL

as far as i could remember, i once saw a YSL counter in BB Plaza’s Metrojaya but i’ve never seen any YSL boutiques in Malaysia

love YSL and of course, Chanel!!!

Berge said, “Chanel gave women freedom,” and Saint Laurent “gave them power,”

Saint Laurent widely was considered the last of a generation that included Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and made Paris the fashion capital of the world, with the Rive Gauche, or Left Bank, as its elegant headquarters

fashionista

my fashionista self started to blossom inside me when i watched paradise kiss in 2006

then, i began to flip thru my mom’s fashion mags

now, i’m a real fashionista

but i‘ve never really introduced my fashionista self in my blog.

well, today it seems as if i’ll be blogging a lil’ bit about my fashion- fetish self.

who is your favorite fashion designer??

Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano, Zang Toi and Marc Jacobs.

what is your favorite bags??

tote bags and handbags.

i HATE hobos!

i’m obsessed with takashi murakami’s LV multicolore monogrammed bag OMG!! this certainly gonna be the first handbag that i’ll buy when i earn my own money.

what is your favorite brand of jeans??

Evisu, Miss Sixty, Seven For All Mankind, MNG ,Guess? and Levi’s

what is your favorite brands??

not expensive ones: Gap, Levi’s, Guess and nafnaf

expensive ones: Chanel, Guess by marciano, Dior, Gucci, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Salvatore Ferragamo.

these are my favorite brands but if there’s some really pretty designs by other brands, i wouldn’t be hesitant in buying it.

what type of shoes is your favorite ??

sport shoes, stilettos, pumps, wedges, ankle boots, oxfords and flip flops.

loafers?? duh….. me??

what is your favorite accessories??

dunno… i love all accessories. i usually wear only a statement piece of accessory, necklace, choker, ring or big, chunky bangle

where do you usually buy your accessories??

anywhere. but so far, i’ve never bought any accessories from markets and i think i’ll never.

who is your fashion idol??

paris hilton, ayumi hamasaki and victoria beckham

what is your favorite fashion mag??

female, harper’s bazaar (not the malaysian edition, please), elle.

what about brooches??

hmmm……. one of these seasons must- haves, so i’m going shopping for a perfect brooch. probably gonna buy a floral or bejeweled brooch. now, brooches are not so aunty anymore, i’ll look good in it. if a particular trend of some season doesn’t suit me, then i’ll stay away from it. i’m not a trend- freak person okay.

what is your favorite brand of watch??

Adidas, Maurice Lacroix, Chanel and Dior.

i bet like 10 (maybe 9) out of 10 people will want to own a rolex. but for me, no rolex. probably because i think rolex is so old- fashioned. yeah, that’s the only one reason.

do you love dresses??

yeah! i love all kinds of dresses, simple yet sexy.

what about sunglasses??

i love em’. they aren’t big this spring/ summer but will be forever attention- grabbing.

will you ever buy imitation stuff??

oh god, NO! i’ll never ever buy those, even if those fake looks very much like the real one. i’ve always seen people (men or women) carrying fake items and i’ll be like looking at it for very long periods of time, just exaggerating. most of the time, i’ll see LX instead of LV. MUAHAHAHAHA. the famous fakes are those of Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel.

which fashion capital would you want to visit??

someday, i mean really soon. i wanna go to Paris and Tokyo (Harujuku, Ginza, Shinjuku, Shibuya also)

what about a fashion- related career??

well, it might be possible. a career in fashion isn’t bad, besides fashion is my passion.

malaysian fashion don’t really interest me, until the recent Stylo KL Fashion Festival

somehow, i’ve always felt that Malaysian models weren’t as beautiful as their Milan, Paris, New York fashion show counterparts

besides, i don’t really like the designs showcased by some of our homegrown designers

now, it seems like my perception towards Malaysian designers have changed, not 100% but probably 55%

of all the designs in the fest, i love Melinda Looi’s haute couture the most which was featured on the opening show of this fest

stylo.jpg

OMG ! i really love haute couture pieces

French lace and tuille makes me love haute couture even more…..

it isn’t only the fashion that entices me, it’s also the make up by Shu Uemura and L’Oreal Professionel

honestly, i don’t really like Edric Ong’s designs on the show because i think his designs are too Malaysian

anyways, it did truly reflect Malaysian culture

on March 21st, the fest ended with the Mercedes- Benz Stylo Fashion Awards ( same with Stylo Star of The Year Award??) being shared by Rizalman and Micheal Ong
